LAMONDANCERS SEASON 9 2017/2018
I moved from Nelson BC in 2016 to attend Lamondance season 8, and couldn't have imagined what an amazing experience it would be. Not only was it great to dance alongside some incredible people, but we were also able to bond over things outside of dance and create a big family. Im so happy to be returning for season 9 and can't wait to continue building our Lamondance community.
Caroline began studying dance at the age of three at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, beginning with recreational ballet and modern dance. Later at the age of ten she realized her passion for dance and started to train at Dance Collective, formerly known as Douglas Ballet Academy. From then onwards she trained in several different types of dance including ballet, contemporary, lyrical, and jazz. At the age of twelve Caroline began to take part in competitions for both group and solo pieces, locally and internationally, winning many gold medals, scholarships, trophies and Top Ten awards; competing with ballet and contemporary solos at YAGP in Seattle, 2015-17, was a highlight.
Caroline has found that she is most passionate about contemporary and ballet and wishes to one day pursue a career in a professional contemporary company. She looks forward to her two years of training at Lamondance and the opportunities that it will bring.
From Delta, BC, Kayla is a graduate of Deas Island Dance where she studied all genres of dance. Kayla took part in D.I.D.’s Ballet Intensive Program and completed her Advanced 2 Royal Academy of Dance examination with Distinction. She has furthered her dance studies through summer programs at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, Arts Umbrella, and the School of Alberta Ballet. Kayla’s performance highlights have included The Youth America Grand Prix, R.A.D. Solo Seal Awards, and the Disney Performing Arts. Kayla is appreciative of the support from her parents and teachers and is thrilled to be training with Lamondance this season.
Born and raised in North Vancouver, I started taking ballet at the age of 4 at RNB Dance and Theatre Arts and eventually picked up every other style. Since the age of 12 I danced competitively at many local competitions and festivals. I have completed the ISTD tap syllabus, and trained in ISTD modern and RAD ballet.
Marie began dancing at the age of 3 and has never once looked back. After many years of recreational and competition dance she realized that this was the career she intended to pursue. With that Marie began home schooling in order to work privately with a dance coach and mentor for one year. Following this Marie moved east to Calgary, Alberta to attend the School of Alberta Ballet, training in the Dedicated Contemporary Dance Stream, which allowed for her to expand her dance knowledge and abilities, as well as mature as an artist. It was in Alberta where Marie realized that this was 100% the path she was supposed to be on and started researching post graduate training to further her dance education in hopes to one day make a career of it. Marie has since found her self beginning a new and exciting journey in her dance career at Lamondance for their 9th season.
Gabriel was born in Brazil in 1996, in 2010 he began his training in dance at the Batista Arts Center, where he had great teachers and a solid foundation in dance. In 2015 he started his studies in ballet classics at the School Of Ballet Goretti Quintela. In the year of 2016, he was awarded a scholarship for the training program Lamondance, Season 8. Over those years Gabriel had the opportunity to work with world-class choreographers and teachers around the world. He has learned a lot about dance and improving his technique.
Born in Florianopolis, Brazil, Lucas began his studies in ballroom dancing at age 15 and at 18 began his training in classical ballet, contemporary dance and performing arts. He has participated in courses with internationally recognized teachers, dance festivals and shows all over the country, winning awards as a dancer and choreographer. He graduated as a dancer in the renowned Theater School of Dance Guaíra, Curitiba / Parana.
Myah has studied in many genres such as Ballet, Lyrical, Jazz, Contemporary, Acrobatics, Hip-Hop, Modern, and Musical Theatre. She was named Provincial Representative two years in a row, once in Modern, then in Jazz and Stage. She also followed her studio at conventions and was named Breakout Artist in 2016 and 2017 at Nuvo Dance Convention. In the summer of 2016 she had the honour of mentoring under Jaci Royal and her company “Royal Flux” in North Hollywood. During this experience a solo was choreographed for her and she placed no less than 2nd with this piece. Myah has also worked with many other well known choreographers such as Mia Michaels, Denise Wall, Stacey Tookey, and Liz Tookey. Myah is known in the dance community as a well rounded performer with her experience in dance, acting and singing. She has spent the past two years teaching children from ages 3-8 in various styles of dance and choreographing her own pieces in Contemporary, Lyrical, and Jazz. Myah will be continuing her dance training at Lamondance Company while furthering her goal of becoming a professional performer.
Amanda Barros began to dance at the age of 11 in Recife, PE, Brazil.
When she was 16, she was accepted at the Ballet Bolshoi Theater School in Brazil, where she started studying contemporary dance in 2013.
She remained at Bolshoi for three years, graduating and becoming a professional dancer in 2015. Her studies at Bolshoi included others areas as well as classical ballet, popular dances, history of dance and musical theory.
Amanda is honored and thrilled to join Lamondance in her second season, especially because she believes that Lamon's works are still challenging for her.
Sève Mc-Mullin- Miriel was born in France, in the western town of Brest, situated
in Brittany. She started ballet dancing at the age of six in a small municipal
conservatory of Paris.
Sève studied at the Professional Institute of Dance Jazz Rick Odums in Paris where for three years she studied the techniques Of Graham, Horton as well as Contemporary and Jazz Dancing.
Receiving the Baccalauréat STMG diploma, and danced in the Arian’Art Compagnie in Paris led by the renowned ballet teacher Evandra Martins which whom taught her for fourteen years. She has also collaborated and received guidance from Maestro Scott Alan Prouty, Artistic Director of the Sotto Voce children’s choirs at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
Sève joined the Lamondace Season 8, and now, she is thrilled to come back for the season with the company for another extraordinary experience!
Angela Lorenz
Born in Joaçaba, Brazil, Angela started dancing at the age of 3 as an extracurricular activity at school and didn't stop. She was part of several groups where she worked as a classical, contemporary and jazz dancer at Ballet de Câmara do Teatro Alfredo Sigwalt, Ballet Juvenil de Florianópolis, and Companhia Independente de Florianópolis, among others. She most recently completed her studies in classical and contemporary dance at Escola de Dança do Teatro Guaíra in Curitiba.
Angela is thrilled to be part of Lamondance season 9.
Breena Makelki has been dancing since the age of three. She just graduated from Delta Secondary School and Deas Island Dance in June. Her favorite style of dance is Contemporary and Jazz-Swing. Breena has taken dance classes in New York at both Steps on Broadway and Alvin Ailey. She also has performed in Disneyland and has taken classes at Edge Performing Arts in Los Angeles. Breena has helped choreograph some dances in her school’s most recent musical, Urinetown. She is passionate about dancing and is excited to move forward in her dancing abilities. Ever since she was a child, she dreamed to be on stage in a professional company and now she has the chance to pursue that dream.
Paula started her career in dance at the age of 9 years old. She started dancing at her mom's school called “dimensione Danza,” she is a dancer specialized in Classical and contemporary dance.
By the age of 17 she got her “DRT” on Jazz modality in Rio de Janeiro, this document makes it possible her participation at different tv shows in Brazil for all the televisions jobs, that's why by the age of 13 years old she started to also specialize in urban dances, tap dance, contemporary, modern and flamenco dance at her mom’s school.
Paula took part in the Summer of Miami city ballet in July of 2015, also took classes at the Broadway Dance Center and at the Alvin Ailey dance school in the same year she was Invited to study a year, at the Kirov Academy of Washington ballet, also invited to the summer of Joffrey Ballet. She graduated as a teacher with Full Degree in dance, by Cândido Mendes University in Rio de Janeiro with 20 years old.
As the age of 22, Paula began her dance training with Lamondance in Canada, where she discovered her passion for contemporary dance, Paula looks forward to starting a new season with Lamondance.
From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Afonso is a graduate of Dimensione Danza Dance Acadamy where he studied all genres of dance. Afonso took part in a flash mob celebrating the 50 years of Rede Globo (Brazilian TV Channel) and also on NBC CHANNEL (American program). He has furthered his dance studies through many classes at Broadway dance center and Alvin Ailey. Afonso´s performance highlights have included many Brazilian festivals, through Solo and group Awards, and also Rio Olimpic and Paraolimpic Games 2016, as a professional dancer. Afonso is appreciative of the support from his parents and teachers and is thrilled to be training with Lamondance this season.
Born in Ponta Grossa (PR, Brazil), Bruce discovered dance in 2012 when he began practicing Street Dance at an academy motivated by the modeling course he had done. He also studied various styles of ballroom dancing. After that, he began to study Jazz Dance in another institution, and also Classical Dance. In 2014 he went to the Dance School of the Theater Guaíra, in Curitiba (PR, Brazil), where he moved in search of dance. There he had more significant contact with Classical Dance, Contemporary Dance, and even a connection with the scenic interpretation and musical. Bruce is very excited to be part of the 9th season of Lamondance, in Vancouver.
Born in Brazil, Giovanni started his classical training in 2008 with Elizabeth Santos. He was a principal dancer at Ballet Vera Bublitz since 2011, under the direction of Carla Bublitz, director of Ballet Vera Bublitz and delegate of the Brazilian Dance Council. Giovanni received many awards as such as Best Dancer at Bento em Dança competition in 2012 and 2014. He had the opportunity to work with renowned teachers as such as Raul Candal, Marco Sanches, Carlos dos Santos, Boris Storojkov, Andrei Vassiliev and Marlene Lago were he was able to develop his dance vocabulary. Giovanni is also a physiotherapy student, and he is looking forward to this new opportunity to be dancing with Lamondance season 9.
Lazaro Silva
Born in Sergipe/Aracaju, Brazil, Lazaro started his career at the age of 21 years old in the “Universidade Federal de Sergipe” looking for an art career he found his place with the dance world. He was invited by the university to dance with the group, which represent the “The dance art” at the university. Because of his love for the art of dance, he got offered a scholarship by one of his teachers from the University to upgrade his dancing.
To keep enhancing his studies, he went to “Seminário Internacional de dança de Brasilia” in 2016, and he got the scholarship to with Lamondance season 8/9.
Lazaro is looking forward to enjoying this fantastic time with Lamondance learning and collaborating with different choreographers and dancer as well experiencing a new culture.
Thiago started his artistic training in 2006 in classical ballet, contemporary ballet, tap dance and jazz at the Dançarte’ school. In 2009 he entered the Taubate city ballet where it currently stands, worked with professionals like Luiz Bongiovanni, Vitor Navarro, Karina holla, Jorge Garcia, Marika Gidali, Arilton assunção, Marco Sanches, Felipe Cheppkassof and many others. He teaches classical ballet for AABCT "Associacao de amigos da Cidade de Taubate.”
