Choreographer, Educator, Artistic Director - Lamondance

Davi Rodrigues is a Brazilian-born Canadian citizen and the Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer of Lamondance. With over 30 years of experience as an educator, choreographer, and producer, Davi is renowned for his high-energy, immersive dance style.

He studied Physical Education at the Universidade Católica de Brasília and danced with Aplauso Cia de Dança under the artistic direction of Junior O’hara for five years. Throughout his 13 years leading Cia Criatividança in Brasilia, his hometown, Davi directed and choreographed eight full-length productions, receiving numerous accolades for his work.

Since moving to Vancouver in 2008, Davi joined Lamondance as a dancer and guest choreographer, eventually becoming its Artistic Director 14 years ago. Under his leadership, Lamondance Arts Society was incorporated, establishing the company as a leading training program and professional dance ensemble for emerging dancers.

Davi's recent choreography includes works such as “IELE,” “How It Ends,” “VIVA,” “Black Feather,” “Before Dawn,” “Behind the Veil,” “Soul Searching,” “Flesh and Blood,” and the upcoming “Nothing Really Matters.” His choreographies have been showcased at prominent Vancouver dance schools and have earned awards in Canada and the U.S. He also founded the Lamondance and Friends Gala, which is now in its 13th year, celebrating the vibrant local dance community.

Davi's works as a choreographer have also been performed by many prominent dance schools in Vancouver since his arrival in Canada, including Arts Umbrella, Pacific DanceArts, Kirkwood Academy of Performance and Arts, Pulse Dance Centre, and RNB Dance & Theatre. His choreography has received several awards from prestigious festivals in Vancouver as well as in the United States.

With a focus on inclusion, equity, and affordability in a non-profit environment, Davi has dedicated the last 17 years in Vancouver to dance education, supporting emerging artists through Lamondance programs. He is a certified Dare to Lead™ Trained facilitator and holds a certification in Cultural Safety from Len Pierre Consulting.

Furthering his commitment to community impact, Davi created the Lamondance and Friends Gala. Now in its 13th edition, the gala celebrates the local dance community by uniting schools, training programs, and companies from all over the Lower Mainland and engaging in a conversation about dance.

Davi has served as a mentor, judge, and choreographer at prestigious dance festivals and was a faculty member at the International Dance Seminar in Brasília. He has also contributed to Vancouver’s artistic community as a member of the artistic committee for Royal City Youth Ballet.
